If You Can't Beat 'em, Draw 'em
Some of you may be familiar with the Strava application for cyclists and runners, but for those who are not: Strava tracks you via GPS, so you can virtually compete over race segments (or just track your own progress non-competitively). After the initial swoon of excitement from becoming part of this athletic community of Facebook-like statisticians, complete with "Followers" and "Kudos," the honeymoon wears off. You find it still hurts to run and/or cycle and now other people can see when you're dogging it. Worse still, if you thought you were hot stuff on the bike, you soon realize there are a whole lot of faster studs or studdettes out there (they are obviously all younger...).
So I reached that point about five rides in. I did, however, find a redeeming feature in the 'eye in the sky' aspect. The initial ride looked like this:
38.5 miles with two climbs at blazing ground hog speeds.
But if one zooms in...
This was worth points with the spousal unit.
So why not do it again?
Ok, having worn that out, I went on to other things:

30-mile Scotty Dog

A Walk in the Woods

Frost Dragon ...or T-Rex...or, maybe, Barney? (it was cold, missed a turn on the forearm)
It's like a giant Etch A Sketch!
Mind you, these are my initial efforts at this. Doubtless somebody has already done it and has progressed on to Picasso or Escher-like pictures, but my message is that there are always other uses for new technology. Some of them will even earn you points.
